A County Steeped in History

Morris County has some of the most important American Revolutionary War historic sites and museums in the state. Morristown National Historical Park is the first national historical park in the country and is home to Washington’s Headquarters, Jockey Hollow, and Fort Nonsense. Three national historic landmarks recount the stories of the Industrial Revolution, the Gilded Age, and the American Arts & Crafts movement.

In addition, over 140 historic site markers that are located at forges, iron works, taverns, schools, mills, historic districts, churches, homes, and mansions mark significant locations in Morris County’s history from the colonial era through the twentieth century.
