The Importance of Art to Childhood Development ~ by Ellie Knapp, GRTWA Art Teacher
Researchers have touted that the arts and creativity are essential to childhood development ~ physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Here at Gottesman RTW Academy, while we are sheltered in place and our teachers are using distance learning techniques to continue teaching, we feel that it is very important to incorporate these socio-emotional and cognitive skills that continue to heighten our children’s development and creativity.
Art helps children with their development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness. Visual arts teach them about color, layout, perspective, and balance.
